Connect Codex and Claude subscriptions

Connect your Codex and Claude subscriptions in the dashboard once, and every box you bind them to signs its agent in by itself. The Accounts page then shows each limit, how much of it is gone and when it comes back.

Accounts: two Codex and three Claude subscriptions, each with its 5-hour and weekly limit used, the time it resets and the boxes it runs.

Connect a Codex subscription

Codex signs in with OpenAI's device code. Your ChatGPT subscription then runs Codex in every box you bind it to.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and switch on device code authorization for Codex. OpenAI refuses the code without it.
  2. In the dashboard, open Accounts and pick Connect Codex.
  3. Pick Get code. The code expires 15 minutes after you get it.
  4. Pick Open OpenAI sign-in, paste the code on OpenAI's page and approve the sign-in.
  5. The dialog notices by itself and shows Codex connected.

If the code expires first, pick Get a new code and repeat steps 4 and 5.

Connect a Claude subscription

Your Claude subscription runs Claude Code in every box you bind it to.

  1. Open Accounts and pick Connect Claude.
  2. Pick Open Claude sign-in. Sign in with the account whose subscription the agents should use, and approve access.
  3. Claude's page shows a code. Copy it whole.
  4. Paste it into Paste the code from that page and pick Connect Claude.

Connecting a different account than the one your browser uses? Pick Copy link and open the link in an incognito window or another browser.

Bind a subscription to a box

  1. Open the box and stay on Overview.
  2. In the Agent panel, pick the account under Codex or Claude. The choice saves at once.
  3. Restart the agent in the tabs that were already open. A running agent keeps its old login.

A box holds one Codex and one Claude account. The panel shows the slot that the box's agent uses. One account can serve several boxes, and its row on Accounts lists them.

Read your limits

Each account is one row. It shows the main limit windows inline, the share already used, and the time left to each reset.

  • Codex shows its 5-hour and weekly limits, plus limits per model.
  • Claude shows its 5-hour and weekly limits, the weekly Opus and Sonnet limits, plus limits per model.
  • Click a row to open its details: every window, exact reset times, the boxes that use it, and the last problem reading the limits.

Three numbers sit above the list:

FigureWhat it tells you
Ready for a long runAccounts with every limit under 90 %
Next resetThe soonest reset across all accounts
Need a sign-inAccounts that lost their login

The header of every dashboard page also shows your subscriptions at a glance.

Refresh the limits

The page reads limits live whenever the last reading is older than 5 minutes, and updates every minute while open. To ask again, pick Refresh limits on the row. Within 5 minutes of the last check you get that reading back instead of a new one.

Spend a Codex limit reset

A Codex account that holds limit resets shows Resets available: with the count.

  1. Open the account row and pick Use a reset.
  2. Confirm. The spent Codex limit of that account resets right away.

A reset can't be undone. Nothing in detachbox spends one on its own.

Keep part of a subscription for yourself

Lending a subscription to your boxes while you use it elsewhere? Set a reserve. Open the row's menu, pick Keep a reserve, and enter the share of the 5-hour and weekly limits to keep. Boxes stop using the account at that line. Rotation covers the reserve in full.

When an account signs out

A subscription can lose its login. Its row then reads "Signed out — boxes bound to it stop until you reconnect." You get an email with a link back to the connect step.

  1. Pick Reconnect on the row.
  2. Sign in to the same account again.

The account keeps its id, so every box binding stays in place. A separate email tells you when a nearly spent limit resets, at most once a day per account.

Disconnect an account

  1. Open the row's menu and pick Disconnect.
  2. Confirm.

The login is removed from detachbox and from every box. Agents on those boxes stop until you bind another account.

Why your tokens stay safe

  • The refresh token stays on our server, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. It never enters a box.
  • The box gets a file with a short-lived access token only: ~/.codex/auth.json for Codex, ~/.claude/.credentials.json for Claude Code. The server renews it.
  • Disconnecting an account deletes its tokens from our server and from every box.

On your laptop, sign in to Codex and Claude separately. Never copy auth.json out of a box: it holds a short-lived token that only the box gets renewed. Read more on /security.

detachbox is an independent service. Claude Code and Codex come preinstalled as their makers ship them, under their own terms.
