Start your first box

A detachbox is an always-on Linux box with Docker, built for CLI coding agents. You pick a size, pay, and setup starts the moment the payment lands. Your agent runs in a tmux tab on the box, so closing the browser stops nothing.

Create your account

  1. Open my.detachbox.com.
  2. Pick Continue with Google, or type your email and pick Continue with email.
  3. For a new address, set a password of at least 8 characters and pick Create account.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the email and pick Confirm email.

Later, add a passkey or an authenticator app under Settings. The same page lists your signed-in devices and has Sign out other devices.

Create your box

  1. Pick Create box. The size, the agent and the name come pre-filled, so one click is enough.
  2. Under 1. Size, pick a plan. Start, Pro and Max are personal sizes. Business and Business Plus sit under For teams. The plans table compares them.
  3. Under 2. Agent, pick what Every tab starts: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, a Claude Code wrapper for Z.ai or DeepSeek, or a plain shell.
  4. Under 3. Name, keep the suggested name or type your own. It becomes your SSH login. Use 3–32 lowercase latin letters, digits and hyphens. The page checks the name as you type.
  5. Got a promo code? Open Have a code? and pick Apply.
  6. Pick Create box for $19 / month. The price on the button follows your plan. Stripe Checkout opens.
  7. Pay. Back in the dashboard, the box page shows the setup and updates by itself.
Create box: Start, Pro and Max with their price, CPU, memory, disk and network, then Business and Business Plus with snapshots, and Enterprise.

Stripe charges the first month right away. There is no free plan and no trial. A checkout you leave unfinished expires after 60 minutes, and the unpaid box goes with it.

Open your first terminal tab

  1. On the box page, pick Open terminal.
  2. The first tab opens by itself and starts the agent you picked.
  3. Pick the + button next to the tabs to open another one. A box holds up to 10 tabs.

Each tab is a tmux session on the box. The terminal guide covers keys, paste, images, file links and the rest.

Connect a Codex or Claude subscription

Claude Code and Codex run on the subscriptions you already pay for. Connect each one once and bind it to a box:

  1. Open Accounts and pick Connect Codex or Connect Claude. Follow the steps in the dialog.
  2. Open the box. On Overview, find the Agent panel and pick the account.
  3. Restart the agent in tabs that were already open. A running agent keeps its old login.

The box then signs the CLI in by itself. No login inside the box, no auth.json to copy. Limits, resets and signed-out accounts are covered in Subscriptions.

You can also skip the dashboard and sign in inside the box. Pick Not bound in the Agent panel and follow the CLI's own sign-in in a tab. OpenCode and Gemini CLI always sign in this way. The Z.ai and DeepSeek wrappers run on your own API key, as Agents explains.

Close the tab and come back

Give the agent a task and close the browser. tmux keeps the session, and the agent keeps working on the box.

Come back whichever way suits you:

  • Open the box in the dashboard from any browser or phone. Your tabs are where you left them, scrollback included.
  • Open Terminals to see every agent of every box, with the ones that need you on top.
  • Connect over SSH with ssh <name>@ssh.detachbox.com. Run tmux ls to list the tab sessions and tmux attach -t <session> to join one.

SSH needs a key on your account first. SSH shows how to add one or import yours from GitHub.

Get a ping when the agent needs you

Turn on notifications so a blocked or finished agent reaches you. Pings go to your browser or phone, to Telegram or to email. Set them up under Notifications. Notifications explains each channel and how to answer an agent from the ping itself.
