Continue after limits and rotate subscriptions

A subscription limit stops an agent mid-task. detachbox picks the work back up for you. It types "continue" the minute the limit resets, or moves the box to a subscription with room left. A reserve keeps part of each subscription for your own use.

Both switches live in the When the agent stops panel on the box's Overview. The panel shows for boxes that run Claude Code or Codex.

When the agent stops: continue after the limit resets and rotate subscriptions as they run out, both on, with the account the box moves to next.

Continue after the limit resets

Switch on Continue after the limit resets. A tab stopped on a limit gets "continue" typed in the minute the limit resets. You come back to finished work.

How it works:

  • The server sees the limit line in the tab and plans the resume for that subscription's reset time, plus up to 30 seconds.
  • At that time it reads the limits again. If the limit has not reset yet, it waits for the new reset time.
  • The prompt goes through the agent's own delivery when it can, so a line you are typing stays intact.
  • Codex restarts with codex resume --last first, so it picks up the fresh login.

The box leaves a tab alone in two cases:

  • Someone typed into the tab in the last minute.
  • The tab waits on a menu, a question or an approval.

Claude Code also has its own "Continue automatically at usage limit" setting. When Claude continues by itself, the box stays out of its way.

The Terminals list shows a stopped tab with the time it resumes. Turn on the Resumed ping in Notifications to hear about it.

Rotate subscriptions as they run out

With two or more accounts from the same provider, a box can move between them. Switch on Rotate subscriptions as they run out. Bind a subscription in the Agent panel first, since the box starts on it.

Pick the pool:

  • All my Claude subscriptions or All my Codex subscriptions. Accounts you connect later join the rotation too.
  • Chosen ones. Tick the accounts that rotate. The account in use always stays in the pool, and the pool keeps at least one other.

The panel shows where the box runs now and where it goes next, for example "Now on [email protected] · switches when it runs out".

When the box switches

The box moves to another account when the one it runs on:

  • hits its limit in a tab
  • reaches 100 % of a window
  • reaches the reserve you set
  • signs out
  • gets disconnected

The server checks running boxes with rotation every 2 minutes. Switching rotation on for a box whose account already ran out moves it at once.

Where the box goes

The box picks the pool account with the most room in its 5-hour window. A tie goes to the most room in the weekly window, then to the earliest 5-hour reset. Accounts that ran out, sit at their reserve, signed out or have no limits read yet are skipped.

The box stays on its new account until that one runs out. A reset on the old account does not pull it back, so there is no ping-pong.

What happens to the tabs

The box hands the new login to the agents and carries on the stopped tabs. Claude Code picks up the new login by itself and gets "continue". Codex restarts with codex resume --last, then gets "continue".

When the whole pool runs out

The box waits. With Continue after the limit resets on, it moves to the first account that resets and continues the tabs there.

Keep a reserve for yourself

Share a subscription with your boxes and keep part of it for your own work.

  1. Open Accounts.
  2. On the account's row, open the menu and pick Keep a reserve.
  3. Under Keep for myself, enter a share of the 5-hour limit and of the week, from 0 to 95.
  4. Pick Save reserve.

With 20 in the 5-hour field, boxes stop at 80 % of the 5-hour limit. The editor spells out the line before you save. Enter 0 in both fields to turn the reserve off.

When an account reaches its reserve:

  • Agents on that subscription get Esc, and the box's login file for that account is removed.
  • The tab shows a line such as "Stopped to keep 20 % of your 5-hour limit".
  • The account row reads Reserved until the reset time.
  • After the window resets, the account returns to its boxes. With Continue after the limit resets on, the tabs continue.

A box with rotation moves to another account instead of stopping.

The reserve is approximate. Limits are read every minute close to the line, so a fast agent can go a few percent past it.

What these features need

FeatureNeeds
Continue after the limit resetsA box that runs Claude Code or Codex on a subscription
RotationClaude Code or Codex, a subscription bound in the dashboard, and two or more accounts
ReserveAn account connected in the dashboard, with limits read

Boxes on OpenCode, Gemini CLI, the Z.ai or DeepSeek wrappers or a plain shell have no subscription to wait out, so the panel stays hidden. Subscriptions shows how to connect more accounts.
